Sara Laviosa holds an Open University B.A. Hons. Degree recognized by the British Psychological Society, an M.A. in English as a Second/Foreign Language from the University of Birmingham, and a Ph.D. in Translation Studies from the University of Manchester, UK. She is Senior Lecturer in English and Translation Studies at the University of Bari ‘Aldo Moro’, Italy. She is also Tutor, Examiner and Writer of course materials for the M.A. Open Distance Learning Programme run by the Centre for English Language Studies, University of Birmingham, UK. From 1999 to 2002 she was Head of the Italian Section at the School of Languages, University of Salford, Greater Manchester, UK. Since 1993 she has taught English and Italian in a wide variety of educational contexts in Italy (University of Bari ‘Aldo Moro’, University of Foggia, University of Macerata, University of Rome ‘Tor Vergata’); Great Britain (University of Birmingham, Manchester Metropolitan University, University of Salford, University of Wolverhampton); the US (Wellesley College, Massachusetts). Her research interests lie in corpus-based translation studies as well as translation and language pedagogy. She has published numerous articles in scholarly journals, including Italica, Meta, Target, The Translator and Interpreter Trainer, Across Languages and Cultures, Belgian Journal of Linguistics. She is editor of the first volume of Translation Studies Abstracts (St. Jerome Publishing, 1998) and of L’Approche Basée sur le Corpus/The Corpus-based Approach (Special Issue of Meta, 1998). She is co-editor, with Anke Hübner and Toni Ibarz, of Assessment and Accreditation for Languages: The Emerging Consensus? (CILT, 2000). She is also author of Corpus-based Translation Studies: Theory, Findings, Applications (Rodopi, 2002) and Linking Wor(l)ds: Contrastive Analysis and Translation (Liguori, 2005/2008/2012).
